Staff at IOL pushing for better wages, staffing
HARTFORD - Mental health workers, who are members of SEIU 1199NE, from the Institute of Living will hold a media availability on Wednesday afternoon to bring light to their ongoing negotiations with Hartford Healthcare leadership.
- WHO: IOL Mental Health Workers
- WHAT: Media availability to discuss updates from ongoing negotiations with HHC
- WHERE: Corner of Retreat Street and Seymour Street at the entrance of Hartford Healthcare
- WHEN: Wednesday, October 22nd, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Members have been in active negotiations with hospital leadership since March 2025. However, HHC leadership has continued to be dismissive during these sessions. Non-union workers at the facility have received raises, while union workers are still earning less than $20 an hour.
The low wages make retention and recruitment for the unit nearly impossible and leave the current staff being mandated for double shifts multiple times each week.
Members are calling on Hartford Healthcare to come to the negotiation table ready to work with us and find a solution that makes it so we can keep the jobs we love, care for the patients who depend on us and live our lives without struggling to survive between paychecks. We deserve to have a wage that shows the value of our work and helps us grow and retain staff that can fulfill the needs of our patients.
Members will be available onsite for interviews. Please contact the Communications Office to connect with a member or for any additional information at 860-280-6443 or comms@seiu1199ne.org
